Site Walkthrough Recorder (“the Extension”) helps you record browsing sessions and export walkthrough documentation. This policy describes what data the Extension handles and how.

Summary

• All recording data stays on your device.
• Nothing is sent to our servers — the Extension has no backend.
• You choose when to start, stop, and download a recording.

Data the Extension collects

While recording is active on a tab you started, the Extension may capture:

• Page URLs and timestamps
• Clicks, form inputs, and navigation events
• Screenshots of the visible tab
• fetch and XMLHttpRequest API calls made by the page (method, URL, status, request/response bodies subject to your filter settings)
• Extension preferences (API filters, highlight toggle, optional goal text)

Password fields are masked in exported logs. Analytics and static asset URLs are filtered by default.

How data is stored

• IndexedDB — step screenshots and recorded step details
• chrome.storage — small session checkpoint and settings
• chrome.storage.session — temporary popup draft fields

Data is removed when you start a new recording (previous session cleared) or when you remove the Extension.

How data is shared

The Extension does not transmit your recordings to us or any third party. Export happens only when you click “Download Markdown”, which saves a ZIP file to your computer via Chrome’s download API.

Permissions

• activeTab / scripting / host access — inject recording scripts and capture the tab you are documenting
• storage — persist session state and preferences locally
• downloads — save exported walkthrough ZIP files

Children

The Extension is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date above will change when we do.
